the market, greater liquidity in these contracts will ensure a functioning contract which will serve as a
hedging tool for those with physical obligations.
Mercuria also positioned itself to help countries reach their Paris Agreement goals after the UN COP
26 led to an agreement on Article 6, a key Paris Agreement provision that would enable international
trading.
In November 2021, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ghana Environmental
Protection Agreement to collaborate on operationalizing Article 6 carbon trading.
Building off existing businesses, Mercuria is working with counterparties to develop and expand
renewable natural gas and biogas projects, and the company is active in numerous subnational and
national clean fuels programmes, including California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard.
The company is producing biogas that can be deployed to end users seeking supply for voluntary or
compliance purposes in domestic and international markets. These nascent markets are expected to
grow as utilities chart a path to long-term net zero goals.
In addition to more established products, Mercuria is breaking ground on bespoke environmental
products, such as differentiated energy, carbon capture and storage, and carbon-neutral liquefied
natural gas.
Mercuria has also started to focus on various other projects to further its achievements against the UN
SDGs in the areas of de-forestation and other social projects in more rural communities relating to cook
stoves and solar power.
