UPDATE ON
AGENDA 2030
The 2030 Agenda for sustainable development was adopted by all United Nations member states
in 2015. It is a plan for action for people, planet and prosperity. Its scale and ambition are
supported by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 targets with the objective of
providing a holistic framework for addressing the challenge of sustainable development.
Since its inception in 2019, Mercuria’s Agenda 2030 program has been devoted to the company’s
commitment to respecting the SDGs. Since beginning our Agenda 2030 journey when we engaged
with our employees to understand their views on the SDGs that they believe are most closely tied
with Mercuria’s activities, we have deployed a range of resources aimed at embedding the
program’s objectives into our company’s day-to-day operations.
Here you can learn more about some of the activities that we undertook during 2022 for each of
the SDGs that comprise our Agenda 2030 program.
Good health and well-being
Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all
at all ages.
In Peru we partnered with Paskay on the Tullpa+ program to begin
installing improved kitchens that will enhance the quality of life of
families in rural areas of Peru. The environmentally friendly wood-fired
cookstoves are a permanent solution, designed to last over 20 years and
improve the quality of life of users without access to domestic gas. The
design of the stoves improves cleanliness and comfort conditions during food preparation. Access
to the kitchen is made easier so clean, boiled water is readily available which reduces water borne
diseases, and the inclusion of a chimney eliminates smoke in the home, improving health and wellbeing and reducing the prevalence of respiratory illnesses.
Affordable and clean energy
Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and
modern energy for all.
In the Casamance region of Senegal we began our partnership with
Barefoot College International to provide access to clean energy, and
educational and economic opportunity to this Southern region of Senegal
that still suffers from the after-effects of a regional-scale civil war. Work
has proceeded apace, with four women already fully trained as solar
