Climate action
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
The energy transition is the move away from traditional fuel sources and
towards new greener fuel sources and requires the development of new
technologies. In 2021, Mercuria CEO Marco Dunand made a public
pledge that by 2025, 50% of our investments would be into the energy
transition. Since then, we have been increasingly and actively supporting
investments in over 50 companies that are involved in lower carbon, more sustainable energy and
the technologies associated with it. At the end of 2022, following another successful year of
investments, we were well ahead of our goal.
Life below water
Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine
resources for sustainable development.
We are proud to have begun our support for the Reef Alert Network in
2022, a not-for-profit organization founded by a group of passionate
underwater explorers, marine scientists and researchers with the aim of
shaping a new generation of conservation divers ready for action. This
new frontier of recreational scuba diving is not only to educate all divers
to respect the environment, but also to train them to help science monitor and recover the most
threatened habitats. Through its network of conservation volunteer divers, researchers and
affiliated dive facilities, they support local diving communities to achieve their goals and all those
who want to take action to protect biodiversity in the Mediterranean Sea.
Life on land
Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems,
sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land
degradation and halt biodiversity loss.
In the years since the Paris Agreement, numerous governments and
public and private companies have pledged to achieve net zero by 2050.
We are ambitious as we see the urgent need for both the provision of
low carbon energy as part of the energy transition described above, as
well as the protection and restoration of nature. Our Environmental Products team have deep
expertise in low-carbon investments and the global carbon markets. Already active in over 15
countries on 6 continents, the team continued to invest in 2022 across various nature-based
solution categories, including direct land purchases, and management of existing forests,
reforestation and restoration projects that include biodiversity benefits.
